Vancouver 2010 has announced that Stantec Architecture Ltd. Vancouver will design the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton venue for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
The company will also provide general site engineering services for the Whistler Sliding Centre that will be located on Blackcomb Mountain.
Construction on the sliding centre is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2005 to be completed some time in the fall of 2007, allowing athletes to train at the venue and test events to be held prior to the 2010 Games.
The track has a proposed running length of about 1,400 metres and will have 16 bends. Races will last about 52 seconds at in excess of 130 kilometres per hour.
The venue also includes a storage area for 50 sleds and can accommodate 12,000 spectators.
