The United States Olympic Committee has gone a step further than the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and asked U.S. President George Bush’s re-election campaign to pull a television ad referring to the Olympics.
The ad, extolling the return of Afghanistan and Iraq to the Games courtesy of U.S. military intervention, angers Olympic officials because they feel it hijacks the Olympic brand, reports Reuters.
Earlier IOC marketing chief Gerhard Heiberg said, “we own the rights to the Olympic name and nobody asked us”.
Other IOC officials have called the U.S. administration “arrogant”.
