Charles Moore, head of the USOC bid city task force, said that one or more of the four cities campaigning to win the 2012 Summer Olympics could be eliminated from competition this summer.
According to the Mercury News, Moore said, “if three cities finished in the top three of 75 per cent of the categories, there would be a clear line of demarcation”.
The four contenders for the U.S. candidacy, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington will receive visits from the USOC task force in June and July. The task force will pay particular attention to the bids’ international strategies and financial structures during the summer tour.
While praising the four U.S. entrants Moore said if one or more fell substantially behind, it might be knocked out early because of the expense of running a bid campaign.
The USOC plans to name the U.S. candidate for the 2012 Summer Games on Nov. 2.
