USOC Concludes its Tour Of San Francisco

The USOC inspection team asked the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee about infrastructure, private funding, transportation, earthquakes and the energy crisis, during its assessment of San Francisco, one of eight cities bidding to become the U.S. candidate for the 2012 Summer Games.

Committee member Kim Carlisle said, “we’re prepared for anything”.

Bob Condron, the USOC director of media services and a member of the team, said, “we couldn’t help but be impressed by this area, the fantastic venues, the professional organizations, universities and community involvement”. He added that all cities so far have been impressive and said what he likes the most about the Bay Area, so far, is the weather.

Because of the IOC reforms, the inspectors are staying at a Marriott hotel and paying for it themselves.

Bid supporters have touted the Bay Area’s climate, natural beauty and cultural diversity. By 2012 the committee expects that the energy crisis would be over and BART would have completed its extension to San Jose and even connect with CalTrain.

Northern California is home to nearly 400 athletes who competed in the Olympics at some point in their lives.
