Kofi Annan, the secretary-general of the United Nations, has signed a proclamation declaring a worldwide armistice during the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games, August 13 to 29, 2004.
The Olympic armistice is under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.
The proclamation says that all countries are called upon to rest their weapons during the 2004 Games.
