“Unique” Lighting Ceremony For Turin 2006 Olympic Flame

Greece’s Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) told a press conference Tuesday that the lighting ceremony for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games will be unique due to its three characters.

Minos Kyriakou, President of the HOC and the Olympic torch relay commission said that actress Theodora Siarkou will light the Olympic Flame in Ancient Olympia on Sunday as High Priestess for the first time in her career.

Also, for the first time the HOC has some sponsors for the torch relay in Greece. Six companies, including National Bank of Greece, Adidas and Mercedes-Benz, will support the 10-day torch relay in Greece, which is scheduled to travel 69 municipalities and 18 prefectures, covering 2006 kilometres with 534 torchbearers before it leaves for Italy.
