Twelve hundred teenage competitors will be in Glasgow in September to compete in the inaugural UK School Games.
The teenagers will compete in athletics, swimming, gymnastics, fencing and table tennis at the School Games, which is seen as a further step in the offensive to attract the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Glasgow.
Several venues being used for the School Games, including Scotstoun, Tollcross and Kelvin Hall, are also included in Glasgow’s Commonwealth bid.
Sports Minister Patricia Ferguson said, “the School Games will be great for Glasgow and for Scotland, and give us another opportunity to show that we can host major events successfully”.
