The Associated Press reports that the Bush administration is asking Congress for $2.7 million to provide security for the U.S. Olympic team at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens.
The State Department said in its budget request that the sum is above normal levels and is based on an assessment of available security resources and other factors.
The 600 U.S. athletes will be protected by about 150 special agents prior to and during the Games, with the cost of the operation put at $4.5 million.
