Senior ministers of the Greek government and officials of Athens 2004 organizing committee met to discuss the Athens Winter Games. At the meeting Athens organizers presented what they described as the final events’ schedule for the Olympics.
Greek Premier Costas Simits said the United States has offered to assist Greece with security planning for the Games. Simitis said, “they stressed that they are at our disposal to provide whatever assistance necessary”. He added that U.S. President Bush told him “he is convinced that we will do a good job”.
Simits said he invited Bush to visit Athens during the Olympics and throw the first pitch during the baseball events “because of his love for the games”.
Greece is also cooperating with Australia, Britain, France, Germany, Israel and Spain and has budgeted a record $600 million for Olympic security.
