U.S. President To Be Briefed On Chicago 2016 Bid

U.S. President George Bush will be in Chicago Monday where he will hear a presentation on Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The President is to meet with the Olympic planning committee and Chicago’s Mayor Richard Daley. The Chicago Tribune reports that according to a city hall source the meeting is at the request of White House officials who said the President wants to be briefed on Chicago’s 2016 bid.

The White House also wants to know how it can help the city’s bid, said the source.

Mayor Daley says Chicago needs a new rapid transit line west of the downtown area. He said Saturday that the federal government usually supports Olympic host cities with transportation, public safety and security, reports the Chicago Tribune.
