The CBC reports that many businesses in Washington and Oregon states are preparing to make a pitch for “green” contracts related to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
It seems a record number of businesses from the two states have signed up for Vancouver’s biennial conference – Globe 2006 – that gives business leaders the chance to share and market environmentally friendly ideas and products.
The businesses range from eco-tourism operators to what the CBC says are cutting-edge energy providers. They are seeing the conference as an opportunity to market themselves.
A top Washington state official says Globe 2006 is the first chance for Americans to pitch ideas to partner on Olympic contracts.
Robin Cheung helps Washington’s small and medium business participate in international trade. He said, “we have a lot of close associations with B.C. in terms of its love for green technology.
“We have many companies within Washington State that can provide technology, services and products which will make the 2010 Olympics one of the most successful green Olympics”.
Cheung says there are plenty of Olympic-related opportunities for both Canadian and American entrepreneurs.
“No single city can do it all. Certainly Nagano, Athens and Australia sought assistance from many, many other countries in order to put a successful Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics together”, he said.
