Turin is on a mission to beautify its streets, bridges and parks with new trees, shrubs and flower arrangements that will make the city greener because the city expects to have a higher profile ahead of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
Abandoned industrial areas and degraded urban districts located along the Olympic route are to be upgraded, and avenues and park areas will be spruced up.
Flower arrangements will be installed at the entrances to the city, in its parks, along its bridges and in pedestrian islands and traffic separators.
There will be a public relations campaign about the new initiative, and shows and conferences will be organized.
In all, citizens and visitors to the city will be able to enjoy 63 kilometres of improvements to wooded footpaths, 2000 new trees and shrubs along the streets and in the parks, 85 flower arrangements and 1,100,000 square metres of refurbished park areas.
