With just over a month before the Turin Winter Olympic Games begin, the official Turin 2006 Web site reports that fever is running high on the net with 900,000 hits last month (30,000 hits a day and five million page views) compared to 600,000 hits the previous month.
The highest amount of traffic was December 28 when, according to the Web site, all eyes were set on Alpine Skiing (for the downhill on the Stelvio), on Biathlon (World Cup) and on Hockey (for the rosters of the Olympic teams).
Although there was a drop in the percentage of hits coming from Italy (12 per cent compared to 17 per cent the previous month) the Americans made up the slack with 53.60 percent of the hits, followed by Italy (12.64 per cent) the Netherlands at 5.53 per cent, Canada at 4.01 per cent and Japan with 3.59 percentage of hits.
The English version of the Web site generated 75 per cent of the traffic while the remaining 25 percent was divided between the Italian and French version.
Among the most visited sections of the Web site are Competitions and Schedules, Sports and Athletes, Tickets, Calendar, Ceremonies, and the Photo Gallery. Transport, Competition Facilities and Accommodation were the most visited categories of the service information section.
There was also much interest in the news sector, weather, and in the TV programs of the European broadcasting sections on winter sports.
On February 1 the official Games Time Web site will be unveiled.
