Tickets for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as the competition events, will go on sale starting in November. More details will be announced at a new conference Friday.
Construction work has started at the Cesana Torinese venue, host of the biathlon events. The site will include a 14 million euro ring-shaped complex about four kilometres in length equipped with several firing ranges. The venue is situated at an altitude of 1,600 metres above sea level 97 kilometres from Turin and 12 kilometres from the Olympic Village in Sestriere. After the Games the structure will be converted into a hotel complex and the track will become a training ground for biathlon, cross country skiing and mountain bike activities. The site is being restructured to accommodate athletes, officials and journalists and should be completed by February in time for the World Cup.
Alpine skiing during the 2006 Games will be held at Sestriere, curling will be in Pinerolo, and Turin will stage sledge hockey. Officials will announce plans for non-event venue sites such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Turin’s Palasport area and the Sestriere, where more than 200 people will be accommodated, including athletes and officials, at the Valtur village site. About 180 people including those competing in the curling and sledge hockey competitions will stay in Turin.
