To promote its bid for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games a specially built Olympic truck is visiting several fairs and exhibitions across Piedmont. The truck will be present at Paralympic Day, a three-day event organized for Turin 2006 volunteers.
Turin 2006 is also operating a series of information stands at various venues that will be hosting 2006 Olympic events.
Meanwhile environmental issues are high on the agenda for the 2006 Games. Turin’s organizing committee has devised a plan for the disposal of an estimated 1,600 tons of waste that will be produced during the Games.
Toroc’s waste management head Marco Rossi said, “our objective is to eliminate the possibility of any waste products flowing into the drainage system and into effluents, such as rivers and streams. The next Winter Games will be the most eco-friendly in history”.
Toroc’s environmental plan consists of a “buy green” strategy when it comes to the purchase of goods from suppliers. Products that are environmentally safe will be given precedence.
Other components include recycling and re-using, such as the decision to use napkins and table cloths that can be washed and used again rather than being thrown away, or the use of cutlery and crockery made of biologically degradable products that pose no harm to the environment once they are disposed of.
