Turin 2006 Update

Valentino Castellani, head of Turin 2006, may be staying on after all. After meeting with the government’s Olympic supervisor, Culture Minister and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Mario Pescante, Castellani said he had reached an agreement that could allow him to stay as head of TOROC. Castellani said he decided against submitting his resignation at a November 24 board meeting. He said the two men agreed on a “clear and undivided framework that spells out the chain of command at TOROC”. Whether or not he carries out his threat to resign now depends on how the other parties to the document react to his agreement with Pescante.

Tourism Turin will be in the United Kingdom from the 15th to the 28th of November to attract the attention of potential British tourists to the Piemonte city and its territory and to the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

An agreement has been signed that appoints Schenker Italiana “official supplier for shipping and customs operations” for Turin 2006. The company provided the services for the Olympic and Paralympic Games for Athens 2004. According to the agreement Schenker will be responsible for the international shipments and customs operations for the sites involved in the performance of the Games and transportation of all materials needed by the Olympic Committee, as well as supplying similar services to other members of the Olympic Family, like the National Olympic Committees, the National Federations, telecommunications, press agencies and sponsors, for their participation during the Games.
