Turin 2006 Update

Now that the Athens Games are over there’s a lot of attention being paid to the Beijing 2008 Summer Games. But the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games are facing a shorter deadline.

The 2006 Games will be spread over two zones. The ice sports will take place in and around Turin and the snow sports will be in the Alpine region around Sestriere.

There will be three Olympic Villages and seven media villages.

During the 17-day competition 82 Olympic titles will be awarded in seven sports.

Expected at the 2006 Games are 2,500 athletes, 650 judges and referees, 10,000 media people and about 2,350 members of the Olympic family.

A study by the University of Turin shows that 90 per cent of its residents expressed a favourable opinion about the Olympic Games.
