Turin 2006 Presents Commemorative Coin Program

A program to issue 11 commemorative coins for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games – six in silver and five in gold – with a legal value, in four successive phases starting this month, was unveiled Wednesday at the Salone d’Onore of the CONI. The coins nominal value will go from five euro to 50 euro.

Official pictograms will be reproduced on the silver coins that represent the Olympic Winter disciplines, and the gold coins will feature some of the most famous monuments of Turin and its territory. The last coin to be produced, a gold coin worth 50 euro scheduled for January 2006, should bear the effigy of the Olympic Torch Relay.

These are the first official commemorative coins ever issued in Italy for an Italian edition of the Olympic Games.
