Turin 2006 On Track

Jean Claude Killy, President of the Coordination Commission of the IOC for Turin 2006, said that the Turin 2006 Olympic committee is proceeding with its organization of Turin 2006 in compliance with the deadlines.

But Killy asked the organization committee to make the most effort in increasing hotel accommodations. Pointing out that it will be difficult in finding hotel rooms, both in the city and in the mountains, he said decisive measures needed to be taken.

President Valentino Castellani said, “we are satisfied by the excellent level of interaction between the TOROC and the IOC. The works for Torino 2006 are proceeding within pre-established deadlines. As regards the presence of asbestos in the ground where the bob and luge track are planned to be built, we are awaiting the results of the Region’s investigations, based upon which we will evaluate the possible solutions with the IOC”.

Castellani was referring to surveys of the preliminary planning phase, conducted on the areas destined to host the bob, luge and skeleton track, which detected the presence of asbestos at deep levels.
