Turin 2006 Head Asked Not To Quit

Government officials are trying to convince Valentino Castellani, head of Turin 2006, not to resign, following an announcement that he will submit his resignation at the November 24th board meeting.

Castellani responded that there is “no room for second thoughts” and that he would not accept another post.

The acceptance of Castellani’s resignation is not automatic. Culture Ministry undersecretary and former head of the Italian Olympic Committee Mario Pescante said he hopes Castellani “can take a step backward”.

Enzo Ghigo, President of the Piedmont regional government added that there was still time to find a solution before the board meeting and Turin Mayor Sergio Chiamparino expressed his personal esteem for Castellani and his hope that TOROC’s hierarchy be left unchanged.
