The new Olympic logo for the 2006 Turin Olympic Games was unveiled Wednesday. The logo is a profile of the Mole Antonelliana symbol of the city, taking flight, surrounded by mountains amidst ice crystals. It’s described as a modern, dynamic, innovative sign, where the geometry of crystals joins to form a web.
The various elements in the new logo depict the city of Turin, with the mountains that surround it. Winter, the colours of snow and ice, touch the blue sky.
The logo was designed by the Benincasa-Husmann studio and was selected from 1341 entries presented by 657 competitors.
Evelina Christillin, deputy president of the TOROC, said, “the decision to issue a tender open to anyone, in complete transparency, without limiting ourselves to a closed number of professionals, was in complete alignment of our philosophy, which could almost belong to De Coubertin. The important thing is to participate. And participation was extraordinary, a sign that a huge number of people believe in the Olympic spirit, in something which can bring together people from all over the world”.
