Turin 2006 Focuses On Games Legacy

In order to avoid mistakes made by previous Olympic Games, including Atlanta 1996 where local people are still paying for the Games, and Sydney 2000 where the facilities have been rarely used since the Games, Turin 2006 officials say that about 1,000 of the 2,500 places at the Turin 2006 Olympic Village will become an international guest centre to accommodate people from all over the world after the Games are over.

A Turin city councillor said the Palavela complex will become a “taste centre, showcasing Italy’s wine and gastronomy traditions. The Oval centre will increase the exhibition area of the Lingotto trade fair centre, while the Palaisozaki will become the state for shows and concerts”.

The Games will increase regional revenue by 1.4 billion euros for the 2004-2007 period and create 6,800 new jobs a year.
