Turin 2006 Construction Helicopter Crashes

The Associated Press reports that a helicopter involved in the construction of venues for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games crashed Thursday on the ski slope in Sestriere Italy, which is the site of the men’s and women’s slalom races. Two people were injured.

The helicopter was ferrying light poles to be used to illuminate the slope at night, said Turin 2006 organizers.

Claudio Agnese, spokesman for Agenzia Torino 2006 the management arm of the Turin 2006 organizing committee that is responsible for construction said, “the helicopter was hovering very close to the ground. I don’t know why it fell, but there will be an investigation”.
