Members of Toronto’s 2008 bid team will be going to Europe during the next few weeks to promote Toronto’s 2008 Olympic bid, but they better hurry.
Just last week, Jeremie Guy, a French member of TSG’s international discussion forum, visited the Olympic Museum in Lausanne Switzerland at the same time as there was an International Press Association seminar.
Guy had several conversations with journalists and some International Olympic Committee sources, and reports that Beijing “was on everyone’s lips”. He added that “Toronto and Paris are seen as back-up plans should the Chinese make a big mistake before the vote. Istanbul and Osaka were just bringing smiles on faces”.
Guy also reports that everyone is convinced that the presidential election and the 2008 election will be linked.
Guy said it was absolutely clear to him that Toronto and Paris, (in that order), have to appear much, much better than Beijing in the evaluation report if they want to have a chance to win in July.
