Tromsoe Is Norway’s Candidate For 2014 Games Bid

The Baku Sun reports that the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of Sports unanimously voted for Tromsoe to be Norway’s candidate for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Officials said, “all the time we have known that Tromsoe can offer more than a sports event”.

Tromsoe Mayor Hermann Kristoffersen said, “Olympic Games in Tromsoe will be an Arctic experience the world has never seen. The nature we have here cannot be compared with anything”.

Confederation president Kjell Kran said if Tromsoe wins the bid for the 2014 Games, there will be ice hotels and igloos all around town, with thousand of guests on cruise ships docked in it harbours. But first it must meet the financial obligations needed to stage the event.

Last month the Norwegian government refused to back the 2014 bid because it was too expensive and too soon after the 1994 Lillehammer Games, but Tromsoe organizers had said they intended to continue their bid.

Norwegian lawmakers get the final vote and a decision is expected this spring.
