Tromsoe 2018 Olympic Ambassador Switched Allegiance

In order to help Tromsoe’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, Alpine skiing legend Kjetil Andre Aamodt said he is willing to switch his allegiance. Aamodt previously supported his hometown of Oslo as Norway’s candidate for the 2018 Games but told the newspaper Nordlys that he was ready to help the northern city of Tromsoe now.

On Friday Kenneth Sivertsen, head of Tromsoe’s resource group for alpine events, is expected to ask Aamodt to be an ambassador for Tromsoe’s bid.

Aamodt told the newspaper, “when Norway seeks to stage the Olympics everyone has to back the application. You have to use the expertise at hand. If I am asked to do a job, it would be natural to accept. You could compare it to be called up for military service.

“Tromsoe faces many challenges if they are to get the Games. We must do everything to make it happen. One also has to find out where one should use the various resources”, he said.

One of the challenges Tromsoe faces is securing a state guarantee worth billions of Kroner to meet International Olympic Committee (IOC) requirements. A decision is expected in the fall.
