In light of Canada’s favourable showing at the Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games, a $32 million museum/theme park slated for downtown Toronto featuring interactive games simulating Olympic sports and displays highlighting key moments in Olympic history, is still on track.
According to the Toronto Star, Glenn Miller of PenEquity Management Corp. said he’ll be at International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland later this month to brief the IOC and other parties on the centre, which could be a model for other cities.
“We’re still targeting late spring or early summer of this year for construction to start”, said Miller. The centre could open in the fall of 2003.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Canadian Olympic Association.
Olympic Spirit backers hope a good start will also boost Canada’s profile with the IOC, which will be voting next year on the host city for the 2010 Winter Games. Vancouver is Canada’s representative.
