Toronto city councillor Michael Walker, has put forward a motion asking Toronto council to notify the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that it intends to abandon the city’s bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, because of Toronto’s current financial crisis.
Walker was one of two councillors that voted against the city bidding for the Games, which was approved by a vote of 54-2.
Walker says the motion will go to council March 6, just before the IOC’s evaluation commission visits the city.
It will take a majority vote of council before the motion can be put on the floor.
