Following Hamilton City Council’s 12-3 vote in favour of building a new stadium for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games at a downtown site which is unfavourable to the Hamilton Tiger Cats football team, Toronto 2015 CEO Ian Troop issued a press release Wednesday saying he will be meeting with Hamilton’s mayor this week.
Troop said, “our objective will be to fully understand the City’s proposition. Once we’ve had these discussions I will request a special meeting of the Toronto 2015 Board of Directors to discuss the venue review and to present a recommendation. We’ll hope to have this convened within two weeks of our meeting with the City.
“If the board approves the recommendation, we then will seek final approval by the Games funding partners – the Federal and Provincial governments”, he said.
Plans call for the new stadium to host soccer during the 2015 Pan Am Games and for the football team to move in once the Games are over.
