Tokyo Submits 2016 Bid To IOC President

The Associated Press reports that the Japanese Olympic Committee officially notified the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of its intention to name Tokyo as a candidate for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Tsunekazu Takeda, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, and Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, both submitted letters of intent to IOC President Jacques Rogge.

September 13 is the deadline for bids to be submitted to the IOC, but the Tokyo 2016 Olympic bid committee decided to send out letters early in order to begin using its logo on July 10.
