Senior Tokyo 2016 bid officials delivered the city’s Application File in person to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne Switzerland, four days ahead of the IOC’s January 14 deadline.
According to Tokyo 2016 the file outlines the technical proposals behind Tokyo’s bid, which the bid committee believes it would lead to the dawn of a new sporting, social, economic and environmental gold era that will benefit Tokyo, Japan, and the whole Olympic movement.
Tokyo 2016 Deputy Director General Yasuhiro Nakamori said, “the Tokyo 2016 bid committee, together with the Japanese people, is honoured and delighted to submit our nation’s Application File for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Application File allows us to share our technical vision with the IOC, which we believe demonstrates our vibrant city’s suitability and passion to host the world’s event”.
According to a Tokyo 2016 media release an official opinion poll released last month shows that 89 per cent of the country’s population are already aware of the bid and its aims, with support for the bid having increased since July 2007 and rising higher each week as the bid is more heavily promoted.
Meanwhile Chicago 2016 bid officials sent 80 copies of the city’s presentation, in English and French, as well as 30 copies on CD-Rom, to Lausanne.
Diane Simpson, a competitor in the 1988 Olympics said, “I think it’s a chance for us to show what our city is and can be”.
