Tokyo’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games is underway following the establishment Wednesday of a bid committee.
Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara was elected chairman of the committee and Japan Olympic Committee President Tsunekazu Takeda is vice chairman.
The Governor said he felt he had become an Olympian. “I feel I have to win for the country. We’ll do our best to win”, he said.
Once it is certified as a non-profit organization the committee will look for donations from companies and organizations to support its bid domestically and internationally.
