TO-Bid Partners With The Toronto Star

Toronto’s Olympic Bid Committee, (TO-Bid) is joining with the Toronto Star, (a sponsor of the bid), through The Star’s Newspaper in Education program to give school groups across the city a chance to participate in Toronto’s Olympic bid by using classroom programs designed to explore Canadian Olympic values.

Using stories and photographs in the newspaper, students will identify examples of kindness, honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness and tolerance — qualities exemplified by the Olympic spirit.

Carolyn Taylor, To-Bid’s project manager for arts and culture, said “the Olympics is about many things, including sport, but not limited to sport”.

The bid committee is also offering three programs exploring Olympic themes related to the Games, the Paralympics and Cultural Festivies.

“Ready, Set, Shine!” uses art to examine Olympic values, “Colours in Harmony” uses music to promote Toronto’s multi-cultural diversity and “Digital Me” uses video to capture the Olympic spirit.

Those classrroms participating in TO-Bid’s programs will be invited to participate in a youth day in May, where taped testimonials from the “Digital Me” program will be viewed.
