TO-Bid Board Meeting To Give Update

TO-Bid’s quarterly board meeting being held Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the Columbus Centre in Toronto, will be an opportunity for Toronto’s Olympic bid committee to provide details of its activities in recent months.

John Bitove, President and CEO of the bid says “we’ve had a very successful summer with a number of major announcements that have pushed us over the top in our goal to put together a winning bid. Now our plan is to focus our efforts internationally, and meet with as many International Olympic Committee and international sports federation members as possible to gain their support”.

Representatives of TO-Bid, along with other cities bidding for the Games, were in Monte Carlo outlining their plans at a meeting of international sports officials. The presentations were made in front of the heads of the 28 sports federations represented in the Summer Olympics.

Bitove said he thought it went extremely well. “A lot of people said to us that they get a sense we understand what it takes to organize the Games and that we’re addressing the issues. They’re very impressed by the $1.5 billion spending program”.

The major project for the bid team over the next three months is to complete the detailed Manual for Candidate Cities (also known as the Bid Book). The book, which provides details on areas including Finance, Environmental protection, general sports concept, the Olympic Village, security, and accommodation and transportation, must be submitted to the IOC by January 17, 2001.
