The World Media Is Coming To Toronto

Toronto is normally the Canadian city where U.S. movies are made, but on July 13 the focus will be on the world news media.

That’s the day television crews and print journalists from media outlets including CNN, The Washington Post, BBC, the European Broadcast Union, Japan Broadcasting, Tokyo Broadcasting and Pheonix Television from Hong Kong will be in Toronto to record the city’s reaction to the IOC’s decision on who will host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Jeff Evensen, a special adviser at TO-Bid, says, “if Toronto wins this, it’s the classic David and Goliath story. It will be the biggest sports story in the world for probably 24 hours and people want to be here to see what the reaction is”.

Broadcast trucks from the various outlets are expected to set up on Front Street outside Toronto’s train station (Union Station) in downtown Toronto.

TO-Bid plans to broadcast live the IOC proceedings from Moscow through the CBC outside Union Station. A street party is scheduled to coincide with the broadcast.

Evensen said, “Toronto is holding its own against the number one tourist destination in the world, Paris, and against the most populous country in the world, China. So I think there’s a real international interest in Toronto”.
