Tender For European Rights For Games Mobile Telephones

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is planning to launch an Invitation to Tender procedure shortly for the acquisition of European mobile media rights for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games and the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

The procedure will provide interested parties the opportunity to bid for the rights to deliver moving images of the Olympic Games via live and on–demand rights packages to mobile telephone devices. The package will be available on a single country or a group of countries basis.

According to the Director of the Eurovision Operations Department, European television audiences reached record levels with viewers watching an average of 14 hours of broadcast coverage during the 17 days of the event.

Stefan Kurten said, “the EBU wishes to further complement comprehensive television coverage with the opportunity for Europeans to be able to watch images of the Olympic Games over mobile telephone devices at a time and place of their choosing”.
