Taiwan To Study 2012 Bids In Preparation Of 2020 Bid

Taiwan Premier Frank Hsieh Wednesday instructed sports officials to prepare Taiwan’s bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games following a report by the National Council on Physical Fitness and Sports on bidding for the 2020 Games. He did not say which city will be Taiwan’s candidate.

Hsieh said, “to bid to host Olympic Games is a great challenge, but it is not an impossible task. We should use our resources to make it possible.

“From the report we can see that a city’s economic power, sports facilities and other factors play a role in its chance of winning the bid”.

Just last Wednesday Hsieh announced Taiwan’s interest in hosting the 2020 Games. The idea has won support from President Chen Shui-bian, but many Taiwanese are concerned China will block Taiwan’s bid for political reasons.

Hsieh told the sports council to prepare filing the bid by studying how London and the other four cities prepared for the 2012 Olympic Games.
