More than one million tickets sales to the Sydney Paralympics, doubling the amount of the ticket sales to the Atlanta Paralympics four years ago, have made the Sydney Paralympics the biggest on record. One million, five hundred thousand tickets have been sold in Sydney compared to the 500,000 tickets sold in Atlanta.
And ninety-two thousand spectators braved cold and wet conditions to make the opening ceremony a sellout.
The Sydney Paralympic Games has already attracted more athletes and competing nations than ever before, and is providing 18 sports, more than any of the previous 10 Paralympic Summer Games.
Jane West, spokesperson for the Paralympic Organizing Committee said of the ticket sales, “we are absolutely delighted. It’s a phenomenal level of support being shown by the Australian community.” She added “We’ve certainly gone beyond our ticketed budget of figures, which is great, but with tickets being so low-priced, it’s not considerable”.
Day passes to the Games, which allow access to all venues, are being sold for 15 Australian dollars or $8 U.S.
