A strong 150-member team of Sochi 2014 specialists arrived in Vancouver to take part in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Observer Program at the 2010 Winter Games and to promote the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said, “one of our key aims here in Vancouver is to test our operational plans in conditions that are as close to the real thing as possible. The Sochi 2014 senior team will have the opportunity to practice and develop our specialist knowledge. Then we can confidently apply international best practice to Russia’s first ever Winter Games”.
Sochi 2014 will participate in 65 seminars and more than 130 planned meetings.
Vancouver’s “famous” dome-shaped Science World facility near the BC Place Stadium has been transformed into Sochi World. Sochi World will acquaint visitors with Russia, the Krasnodar Region and the city of Sochi when it launches on February 11, through interactive demonstrations of the Sochi 2014 concept, through exhibits, presentations and seminars with Sochi 2014 staff and partners.
The venue will be open until February 28 where guests can enjoy performances from leading Russian and Canadian artists.
Chernyshenko said, “Sochi World is Russia’s showcase during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. It is our opportunity to create a bridge from Vancouver to Sochi and provide a taste of our vision for the Sochi 2014 Winter Games”.
