Strategy Workshop, Corporate, Sports Associations’ Support Boosts PyeongChang 2014

A Gangwon Provincial Council panel strategy workshop this week on PyeongChang’s 2014 bid, and support from a leading construction firm and 13 sports associations are making the news this week boosting PyeongChang’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The Gangwon Provincial Council has formed a 12-member panel which held a workshop Monday and Tuesday to discuss strategies to assist the bid campaign. The council is keenly interested in bringing about a successful Winter Olympic bid campaign.

The panel intends to conduct regular site inspections of Olympic competition venues and other key facilities in Gangwon Province. It also wants to heighten interest in PyeongChang’s bid among residents of the province.

Meanwhile a leading Korean construction form, Taeyoung Corporation, has pledged its support for the bid by making a donation to the campaign and joining several other major Korean companies already lending financial support.

PyeongChang 2014 has already attracted a number of major sponsors, including Shinhan Bank, one of the nation’s top lenders; Doosan liquor BG’ the National Agriculture Cooperative Federation, and the Dongbu Group.

Jae-heung BAHNG, secretary general of PyeongChang 2014 said, “more broadcasting companies and corporations are showing their interest in participating in the bid so we expect even more sponsors than we attracted for the 2010 bid”.

Thirteen sports association in Korea have been challenged by the President of the Korean Sports Council to join the government in supporting the bid.

A meeting Tuesday in Seoul marked the first coming together in one place, since 1980, of so many professional and amateur Korean sports bodies, including South Korea’s World Cup Association. The group included sports associations, sports academies, and sports promotion bodies.

At Tuesday’s meeting the group talked about ways to support PyeongChang’s bid, including fund raising and networking.

Han Seung-soo, chairman of PyeongChang 2014 said, “it is very meaningful to be together in one place with professional and amateur sports associations, but it is all the more impressive that your people are ready to support and joint hands with us to host the Winter Olympics”.
