Although it was first declared a boost for Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games bid, sportscotland’s relocation to Glasgow from Edinburgh could prove problematic.
Edinburgh council leader Donald Anderson attacked the decision Monday to move the headquarters of sportscotland, vowing that Edinburgh city council would fight any future plans to relocate jobs.
Anderson said he understood why Glasgow City Council supports such a move, adding “I am not persuaded that the relocation of sportscotland is in the organization’s best interests, nor that it will assist the 2014 Commonwealth Games bid or represent best value for the public purse”.
The Scotsman reports that senior figures within sportscotland have said the move will affect the agency’s ability to function efficiently for up to five years, and it could prove a major problem at a time when it is working to win the 2014 Commonwealth Games for Glasgow.
