Sports Celebrities Become Ambassadors For Sofia 2014

The Bulgarian Olympic Committee, the Sofia municipality, and the State Agency for Youth and Sport announced Tuesday that six sports celebrities have become ambassadors of Sofia’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

They include figure skating Olympic champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski, slalom racer Petar Popangelov, European biathlon champion Pavlina Filipova, and winner of the European snowboarding cup Aleksandra Zhekova who will promote Bulgaria as an eligible spot for the Olympic Games.

“Lets Do It Together” was the motto that brought together the athletes and sport administrators involved in campaigning.

Stefka Kostadinova, head of the country’s Olympic Committee said, “hosting of the Winter Olympic Games is a dream of all Bulgarian sportspersons”.

Sofia’s Mayor Boyko Borissov, who was present at the announcement said, “as I see it sports is the only sphere in the state where everyone is in their right place. Our country has the rare chance with their help to win the bid for 2014 Winter Olympics”.
