SportAccord announced Thursday that its 2012 convention will be held for the first time in Canada. The convention will be in Quebec City May 20-25, 2012.
Quebec Mayor Regis Labeaume said, “the campaign we have undertaken to bring international sports events to Quebec is bearing fruit. The SportAccord Convention is a unique opportunity to show the leaders of the world sport the numerous attractions of our city”
Anna Hellman, executive director of SportAccord Convention said, “we will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the SportAccord Convention in 2012 and we are delighted that the special occasion will be in Quebec. We are happy to be taking our event to Canada for the first time as we continue to hold it in a different location around the world each year”.
Representatives from the 100 international sports federations and organizations affiliated to SportAccord/GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) and AIOWF (Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board together with sponsors, bid and host cities, architects, sports lawyers, broadcasters, Games organizing committees, rights holders and other specialists will be attending to discuss the key issues facing the sports industry.
Officials from the 2020 Summer Olympic Games bid cities will also be there to showcase their bids.
Meanwhile Jean Charest, Premier of the Province of Quebec, told a press conference in February that Quebec City is considering a bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
He said, “we consider this a possibility. A working group will meet with organizers of Vancouver 2010. My opinion is that we launch this application because the city of Quebec is tailored to accommodate the Winter Olympics”.
