Sport Festival Promotes Madrid 2012 Bid

Madrid tested out its bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games with a Sport Festival organized by Madrid 2012 to promote sports and the importance of public transport in its 2012 bid.

Hundreds of people took part in several sports during the week, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, fencing, table tennis and unihockey.

Roberto Sanz Pinacho, general manager of the Madrid 2012 Foundation, said that the aim of the event is “to show the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that one of the values of our bid is to get an Olympic Games without private vehicles”.

Sanz Pinacho said it will be possible to access 82 per cent of sports facilities to Madrid 2012 venues, mainly by subway. Sanz Pinacho stresses that Madrid’s public transport is “one of the best of the world and probably the most modern”.
