South Korea’s President Wants Feedback About Another Winter Bid

There have been calls for PyeongChang to once again bid for the right to host the Winter Games after it lost to Sochi earlier this month.

President Roh Moo-hyun said Wednesday, “we should decide after bringing together the opinions and capacities of all nationals, as well as those of Gangwon’s residents and sports circle. I hope the Culture and Tourism Ministry takes the initiative in reviewing and analysing our capacities and conditions”, reports Yonhap News.

He added that further discussions with related officials will be based on the results of the review and analysis.

Earlier Wednesday Gangwon Province local council, where PyeongChang is located, adopted a resolution launching a third bid for the Winter Games. It was followed by complaints from civic groups concerned about possible environmental damage.
