Some IOC Members Prefer Salzburg For 2014 Bid

Some International Olympic Committee (IOC) members want Salzburg to become Austria’s candidate for the 2014 Winter Olympic bid.

At a recent sports congress many experts said Innsbruck would not win a 2014 Games because it has already hosted Olympic Games twice, in 1964 and 1976. The Austrian Olympic Committee will make its decision on December 15.

German IOC member Walter Troeger said he thought Salzburg should have run for the 2006 Games and they would have beaten Turin. “Having the Games three times in the same place over such a short period of time is not a good policy and does not encourage other candidates”.

IOC member Ram Rhuee from Mauritius said, “they must go with Salzburg. It is a very beautiful city and IOC members remember it from the last bid which was very strong. Unfortunately the time was not right for them to win the Winter Games for 2010″ because many European cities were interested in the 2012 Summer Games and were telling him not to vote for Salzburg.

North Korea’s Un Chang, who is based in Austria and is aware of the rivalry said “I live in Vienna so I have great interest in the Austrian bid. Salzburg has an all-round appeal which Innsbruck lacks. Also Innsbruck has already staged the Games two times. Why go back to the same place, especially when Salzburg has so much to offer”.
