Sochi 2014 Volunteer Centres Announced

The results of the “Russian Volunteer Centers” contest were announced Tuesday by the Sochi 2014 organizing committee. Twenty-six educational institutions – 25 universities and one college – were successful in their bids to become organization and performance centres in the run-up to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The volunteer centres will open mid-2011 and a mass recruitment of volunteers is planned for the start of 2012. Selection and training of the volunteers will take place between 2012 and 2013.

During training, teams of volunteers will take part in the scheduled test events.

About 25,000 volunteers will work during the Games in more than 20 areas – from meeting the delegations at the airport to helping organize the Closing Ceremony.

Also around 3,000 volunteers trained by the city of Sochi will help visitors attending the Games travel between the city’s venues and ensure a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
