Thirty-four Olympic facilities will be completed in Sochi by the end of the year Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told a meeting on Monday with Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Putin said “seventy-two structures are now under construction and 19,000 builders are working, using 2,500 pieces of machinery. He added that “as many as 35,000 people will be working at the facilities by the end of the year”.
Meanwhile Rogge said Monday that Olympic officials will take “all the measures that are needed” to prevent another fatal luge crash at the Winter Games.
The Associated Press reports Rogge cited the death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili who was killed in a high speed training accident a few hours before the opening of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Last week the IOC said that a “neutral expert” would be appointed to check on the safety of the luge course being built for the Sochi Games.
