Sochi 2014 officials presented their Olympic and Paralympic plans to delegates at the 8th International Investment Forum which took place September 17 to 20 in Sochi. At the forum there were representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), global business people and the international media.
During the forum 238 deals worth $15.4 billion were signed, including many connected to the delivery of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
IOC representatives were given tours of Olympic venues now under construction, including the official start of construction of the Olympic Skating Center foundations which will be completed during the next two months while the centre itself will be completed by October 2011.
The Olympic Skating Center, which will play a central role in the Sochi 2014 Games, will have a capacity of 12,000.
Jean Claude Killy, Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission said, “construction continues to progress well and we believe that the building work is where it needs to be at this point in time”.
During the forum IOC experts visited exhibitions by the Sochi 2014 Partners who were, for the first time, participating in the event as Sochi 2014 Tier One Partners.
Meanwhile IOC President Jacques Rogge expressed his confidence in the Sochi 2014 Games as he met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Berne, reports Russia Today. He said his belief is based on Russia’s rich sporting history as well as its economic potential.
Rogge said Tuesday, “clearly the bid of Sochi was the best of all the bids we had to examine. The Russian Federation is an economically very strong country. It has a great tradition in sport. You have organized perfectly the Moscow Games and many world championships. You have won more than one thousand Olympic medals in the whole history of your country. So that puts you at the top three in the world for organizing the Games”.
