Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 President and CEO, said in his presentation to the EOC General Assembly in Belgrade, Serbia Friday that 40 per cent of the planned construction work on the Olympic venues will be completed by the end of 2010, and all Olympic competition venues will be ready by 2012, two years ahead of the Sochi 2014 Games.
Seventy-four test events are planned between January 2011 and September 2013, including five world championship events. There are also Paralympic test events scheduled. The test event program will bring more than 250,000 spectators and 5,000 athletes to Sochi.
Chernyshenko said, “we were delighted to share with the EOC General Assembly the significant steps we have taken over the past year in our preparations and to show that we are on time, on track and on budget in accordance with the Games Master Plan agreed with the IOC”.
He added, “we eagerly look forward to a record number of National Olympic Committees joining us at the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where they will receive the warmest of Russian welcomes”.
